Easy way to address envelopes?

Is there a way you can print address labels from Excel? I have all our guests' addresses in an Excel sheet and I'm wondering if there's a way to print attractive labels for shower invvites, Save the dates, etc. straight from Excel or exporting them into some other software. Thanks!

You should not be doing the invites for your shower.  That would mean you are throwing your own shower, which is a huge no-no.  The hostess of the shower needs to do so.

EDIT:  And you also shouldn't be using labels for all those other things.  If you insist on being lazy (which besides bad handwriting is the only reason to go that route) get clear labels or preferably try to print directly onto the envelope by running the envelope through the printer.
  • I'm not sure if you are able to do it from Excel, but you are able to do it in Word. I have a feeling you can't because FI did his addresses in Excel thinking he could export them into Word, and after an hour of trying and reading for information on how-to, he realized it was not possible and had to manually move everything into word. I could be wrong....but that was our experience...if there is a way, it wasn't easy to find it.

Also, I've always seen STD's and shower invites have the addresses printed on a regular label - I don't think it's as big of a deal as the PP said. I wouldn't do a label on a wedding invitiation, but the STD's and shower invites are not a big deal. That's how mine are being done as well.

Perhaps, but the issue pp was pointing out was that the OP SHOULD NOT have anything to do with her own shower.

  • No, definitely not doing my own shower! I just meant in general - like if I sent my Excel doc to my hostess, could she print straight from the doc, even right onto the envelopes? Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.
  • If you have your addresses in excel, you can import them into word and print directly on the label.

    In MS Word '07

Mailings tab /> Start Mail Merge tab > select recipients > Use existing list > browse computer to find your excel file

Under start mail merge /> envelopes : you can select your envelope size your printing on

If you have problems  you can use the step-by-step wizard: start mail merge /> Step by step mail merge wizard
  • I did clear labels. They turned out really nice. I had a friend get labels that had a design on them like her invite and printed those. They looked great.

For some reason this made me think of <em>Mommie Dearest</em>.
  • You can have labels, for goodness sake! It has nothing to do with laziness either. Perhaps what is lazier is spending a fortune for someone else to do your invites.

There are such pretty labels in different colors and designs from stores like Paper Source! We're using dark navy envelopes which need a label so that one may read the address. I'm handstamping and embossing a border on them as well, and the font is indistinguishable from hand writing- it's not like someone is using Comic Sans or Times New Roman!

    ha!

"Is this an address label? What did mommy say about address labels??
    <strong>NO ADDRESS LABELS</strong>!"
  • I have to say that while labels are clearly a topic that can get a lot of feathers ruffled, I've read that this is one of those things that are going out with the times... Not every bride I know has a stationary set and quill like the old days when the hand-addressing etiquette rule was established (to my knowledge). I think as long as it looks nice, and fits with your vision, do what works for you, however I am definitely in the minority way of thinking it seems. Good luck OP, and I think it's great that hz80408 was so awesome to give instructions! I know a lot of girls have difficulty with Mail Merge.

  • Just do a mail merge into a word document.  Easy smeasy.  I detest address labels of any kind, but that's just a personal opinion.  I think putting address labels on any bridal/shower invitations doesn't look good (also my opinion).  Just pick a nice font and print directly onto the envelopes.
