Beach Wedding Invites - NEED HELP!

We are having a laid back beach wedding in September.  I'm trying to decide on invites.  My fiance doesn't care for the "beach themed" ones because they remind him of bathroom decor (LOL).  And I've seen some really cool unique ones that are square shaped, which I know will cost extra postage, so I'm trying to avoid that route.
My question is, do you think it's crazy to not have our invites elude to the beach somehow since we are getting married literally in the sand?  Or does it even matter?
And what are your thoughts on the square invites?  Is it worth the extra postage??
THANKS!

  • What about using just colored paper that resembles a beach, like sand colored, and blues, and whites? I think that would help it feel beachy without having it scream beach.

  • Check out the beach invitations at The American Wedding! They have some classy looking white/ivory colored ones! We're getting married on the beach in July and haviing the reception at a country club so I didn't want the invitation to be too casual! I did make our save the dates very beachy since they are aren't as formal!

I haven't chosen the invitations yet but I have narrowed it down and one of the ones I liked was square too! But I'm still mot sure I'd want to put the extra money into a square invite as I'd rather use that money elsewhere!

    Good luck!
  • Here are some adorable invites that have a tropical/beachy feel, without screaming "beach".  They are a digital design, then you can save money by printing yourself or through a local printing company.  I did this for my wedding in Kauai, and I got some great responses:

You can always try more of a nautical theme, and maybe go towards navy rather than bathroom teal, even though navy is more formal, it will look elegant. Washes of blues could be nice, or just even playful hand lettered type in blue. Cream and texture could be a different way to go. Personally I don't think the square is worth the extra postage, especially if it means cramming the information into a smaller amount of space - but it depends on the design.
In the end you can pick whatever invitations appeal to you rather than themed ones. Neutral simple ones can go with anything, and you don't necessarly have to have a startfish or a sea lion just because you are getting married on the beach.
  • We're doing a beach wedding and our save the dates had nothing to indicate that (aside from the fact that it's in a town known for being on the beach). Our current picks for our invites have nothing to do with the beach either, but do include our colors and our love for music festivals (so they tend to look like concert posters).

I'm with your FI, I think the beach themed ones I've seen look like bathroom decor and/or cheap. Go with an invite that you like, just make sure it matches the vibe of your wedding (more casual than formal since you're describing it as "laid back").
