Can someone please proofread how I should address the envelope to someone living in an apartment? Here is one of my guests (engaged, not living together):
Ms. Jane Doe
Mr. John Smith
201 West 57th Street, #4J
New York, NY 10019
1. Did I put the street name correctly?
2. Did I list the apartment number correctly?
3. Should the state be spelled out?
*Note, this NOT the guest's real address or name.
Re: Correct Way to Address
It's the USPS website. If you put the address in as you think it is, it will tell you if it is incorrect. At work, I send out personal info via snail mail sometimes and have to verify the addresses since the mail has private info in it and this is what I use.
Generally, when I receive addresses that are apartments, there is not a comma between the street name and apartment #, but there are exceptions.
In rare occasions, street numbers have to be spelt out (like First St. in Washington, DC), USPS website should catch that if that is the case but I doubt it if it's a large number like 57th.
No need to spell the state out, but it also won't get sent back to you if you do so.
I think the street name is okay as is, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
Apartment 4J on the line underneath the street address and write out the state name as New York.
For the street, I've seen it both ways. I used to live on 75th Street and would see it as either:
East 75th Street
or
East Seventy-fifth Street
I honestly think either's fine.

These. I would leave the street address as is.
