Plus Ones

Did many of you give your single guests a plus one?  My sister did this at her wedding and we are definitely going to do it at ours.  We don't have hundreds upon hundreds that we HAVE to invite and inviting with plus ones would probably take us to just over 100 guests and most of the places we looked at have a 100 guest minimum anyways.

I am curious though, if you have a lot of single guests that you invited with plus ones how many people actually came and brought plus ones?  Because I feel like with inviting plus ones there's much more unpredictibility in the guest list.  For example if I invite 200 people including plus ones (I'm not) I could end up with 200 people going or only 100.  I know not to invite more people than my budget allows counting on people cancelling.

It really is a gamble.  We didn't allow plus ones for anyone not in a relationship, so I have no advice there.

I guess I'd plan on them all attending, but talk with your friends to get a general idea.  Obviously you should wait until you have their rsvps to be able to truly take their word.

 I think anyone in a relationship will likely bring their date. Anyone who doesn't know anyone else at the wedding will probably want to bring a date.

For us - several relatives like my brother and sister, a couple of aunts and uncles, and some good family friends - all of whom will know many people there and none of whom are in a relationship - I would not expect to want to bring someone.

We offered plus ones to all of our single guests and only about 1/3 of them brought a guest. When we were figuring out our budget we accounted for the total number of guests and their plus ones.

If you are looking for a venue I would find one to account for your total guest list which would include your plus ones.

We invited all unattached guests "and guest." Not one person opted to bring a guest! I don't remember exactly how many there were invited like that -- I want to say around 10 or 15? But we were prepared for the total number just in case everyone decided to bring someone, as unlikely as that seems.

It is nice to give single guests a plus one but it is not required, unless that is the norm in your social circle. As long as you invite S/O's of your guests you should be fine.

My fiance and I have a very small guest list so we're just including our friends spouses and boyfriends/girlfriends on their invites, but otherwise we're not doing plus ones. You should have breathing room for them if you expect a few extras to come, but I know some weddings were very strict regarding uninvited guests or plus ones where not specifically addressed. I can understand either way.
