cost for invites?

I know cost is relative for each bride based on budget, but what is the average price that folks pay per invite when you have them professionally printed?  FI and I are trying to weight the cost benefit of printing them ourselves versus having them done by a vendor recommended to us, and we have no idea whether the quote she gave us is unreasonable or reasonable.  Any advice would be much appreciated!

ETA: I know we are over a year off, but we are in the process of finalizing our budget and want to know how much we need to set aside for each item.

We went to a local printing store to order our invitations. I can't remember exact numbers because it's been awhile, but I think for about 100 pocketfold invitations including the inserts and envelopes, it was around $500.

I ordered these from Wedding Paper Divas: http://www.weddingpaperdivas.com/product/5452/signature_white_textured_wedding_invitations_sign.html#color/02/pid/5452 . We also looked at Minted and My Gatsby and the prices were all very close to that.

I'm not sure about the difference in cost between DIY, ordering online, and having a vendor design them, because we decided early on to order online. I thought our invitations were a good price for the quality and we're extremely happy with how they came out.

For DD's wedding in September, the invites ran about $675 (About $3.20 each) for 210 of them. That is with RSVP postcards, the invitation itself and envelopes. Plus postage for the postcards and the invitations added 77 cents each. (We lucked out and regular 45-cent postage covered them. If you have more enclosures or square invitaions, they will be at least 65 cents to mail)

I would say your cost per invite depends greatly on what type, how complicated, etc.

I'm doing a pocketfold with three enclosures. I was quoted at $8.50 per invite by a professional for all components (invite, mat, the pocketfold, all three enclosures, the envelope it all goes in.) I decided to DIY and brought it down to about $3 per invite. None of that includes postage.

Our stationery is very important to us, and it's the one "splurge" we have that's completely for us, not for guests.  We're ordering 200 thermography invitations, response cards, thank you notes, enclosure cards, and reception cards.  We're getting inner and outer envelopes, and the inner envelopes will be lined.  The return address will be thermographed onto the outer envelopes, the RSVP envelopes, and the thank you note envelopes.  All totaled, we're looking at around $450, which is a heck of a deal.  The place we're doing them through (most likely) is exclusivelyweddings.com.  They run 30% off deals all the time.

We are also going to be ordering around 30 STDs from weddingpaperdivas that are going to cost about $60.  We are estimating that postage is going to be another $300 - $350.  Do NOT forget to include postage in your budget.  To be safe, we are budgetting 2 forever stamps per invitation, 1 per thank you, 1 per STD, and 1 per RSVP.  That's 630 stamps at $0.45, which = $283.50.  We also have some international invitations, and we have no idea how much those will cost to mail.  If it ends up costing less, awesome.  If not, well then at least we weren't surprised.

My site sells wedding invitations for as low as $1.30.  You can also purchase the matching save-the-date cards, envelopes, rsvps etc.  You can personalize everything online and order samples to see what they actually look like.  I do however feel that Vistaprint is an affordable D.I.Y. option.  I order from them all the time and can't believe the prices escpecially if you have a coupon!

Ours were $7 per invite, which included everything...custom stamp, 5 inserts (we are having many out of town guests,) post stamped return address....and all the printing including the addresses.

About $200 for 80 invites. We ordered panel pockets and envelopes from cardsandpockets.com and had a local printing company design, print, and cut the invites plus 4 inserts. We glued and assembled them ourselves.

We're sending out 75 invites for a wedding of 120-130. We bought the invites at Hobby Lobby on sale for $10 every 25 invites. We also went to Office Depot to have them printed for $0.10 a page. So overall, we spent $50 on our invites and we love them! I don't know if that helps or not. It worked awesome for our small budget.

We did custom letterpress from a local shop that was a bit of a splurge. I love them! They ran $7.50 each for the invitation, RSVP card, and envelopes w/ front & back design (wraps over) as well as our return address imprinted. Fortunately, a single first-class stamp was sufficient.

I ordered from Jen at www.designerjen.org - got 110 pocketfold invitations with 2 enclosures, rsvp card, both envelopes and envelope printing for right around $500.

I debated getting them professional done, the cheapest I could find them was $230...that was JUST for the invite and envelope.  The RSVP was separate and there was no room on the invite for the reception info, meaning I had to purchase reception cards. 

So despite me swearing I was not doing any DIY...I did it myself with Michaels invites, Gartner Studios brand, champagne swirl invite kit.  It was a bit of a pain for about 15 minutes lining up paper, margins, etc.  The RSVP was a little trickier...ever time I hit print I had to type in the height and width of the RSVP card size. 

Initially I bought 3 boxes of 40 invites (RSVP, ribbon, envelopes all included)...regular $54.99 Canadian, 30% off (or you can use your 40 or 50% off coupons) so they were approx $38 plus tax per box (roughly $43 each).  I needed 80 invites...so I returned 1 box after they were all printed.

Total cost of our invites was $86, taxes included, I bought 1 roll of double sided adhesive tape for $6 at Michaels to attach the ribbon on the back...$92 tax inc.  Labels I printed off at work with our photocopier.  Free.  So the only cost now is postage (and most we are hand delivering). 

Cost per invite including the roll of tape and taxes inc, $1.15 each for everything.

I would 200% recommended it to anybody.

It depends what you are looking for.  Paper - fancy paper is expensive, so the better quality and different your invitations get the more expensive they are.  Its always cheaper to go with a generic already made invites (You can get some great invites on minted, or paperwedding divas for around $250).  If you want something elaborate I'd say it could run up to $700.
