Wedding Invitations & Paper

Wanted: Custom Invites advice

hello there ladies.

I have finished all the art work that I want on my invites and am planning
on going to the stationary shop down the street from my house to consult with them
about printing the wedding invites.

Questions:

what should I bring with me exactly?  I have scanned the art work so am planning on saving them as PDF files and taking a memory stick to the store with me.  But i'm just not sure if that is the best format.

Should I bring my lap top instead?  Should I make a little sample card to explain exactly how I want everything placed and where?

If you designed your own invite completely from scratch do you have any advice?

any help is greatly appreciated.  my wedding is in June so crunch time is here and my mom
who is in charge is out of town at the moment!

  • PDF on USB is probably your best bet. You'll likely need an initial consultation though because they'll have certain margin/bleed requirements that you'll need to follow. You'll also want to confirm with them the correct resolution to ensure your images do not come out blurry.

  • I worked at a stationery shop for many years doing custom invites, so this is kind of how our process went: If someone brought in artwork, we usually had them email the files or put them on a USB drive for us to work with. Depending on what file format your image is, we will have to play around with it to get it to work within the programs we use. We then will sit down with brides and discuss layouts of the invites and sketch everything out, label paper choices etc. Then we write out some wording. If you have ideas for wording, go ahead and type up a copy and bring it. At least for us, we'd basically retype anything someone gives us so bringing in a hard copy makes more sense than emailing. Also let them know what you're willing to spend and how many you'll need. The people will be able to work with you on this, you shouldn't have to have everything done by yourself first. Good luck!
  • oooo!
    thank you LeiselEB !

I hadn't thought about printing the words but it makes sense and is a good idea.
