<div>Just not sure if they are too over the top and just can't decide if i like them or not. </div>
  • They're lovely - but not on the outer envelope. They get crumbled or ripped off during transit or going through post office machinery.

If you use them to seal your inner envelopes or to seal your pocketfolds, that would be great - not tacky at all :) The glue gun varieties are especially good for this because they're a little softer, not like candle wax, and they are easy to use.

And then they leave an unsightly mark on the back.  I've had trouble with the kind that go through a glue gun (a cheap glue gun does a bad job melting the wax and melting enough for anything but the tiniest of seals), but I've never had any problems with the regular kind (melt over a candle and then rub a circle on the area you're sealing).  You can also make them on a separate paper, peel off, and then glue to the envelope to close (this may only work with certain types of sealing wax though).

If you've never tried sealing wax, find a store that carries it (any store devoted solely to stationary) and ask for a demonstration (they typically show you and then let you try).
  • I think they look great but keep in mind it will increase the cost of postage. I wanted to do a wax seal on my invites. I took one in to the post office to weigh for cost and found it would be 1.95 per invitation with the wax seal and .45 cents without. So I opted for gold foil sticker seals instead.

Were you putting it on the outer envelope?  I put them on the inner envelope and it didn't change the postage price at all.

OP  - if you want to do this, go to Letterseals.com.  They have a great selection.

I had them on the outer envelope.  I should have done my research!

I sealed all of my invites with the wax seal on the outside before having them weighed at the post office.  I ended up peeling them all off and that's why I needed the foil seals to cover up the spot left over on the envelope.

  • I'm doing wax seals. At least that's the plan...I haven't actually tried yet, and I'm not the craftiest person on the planet. They have the wax and stamps at Michaels for pretty cheap.

  • I'm doing wax seals on our invitations.  I helped a friend with hers a while back and they ended up looking really great.  You'll probably have to take them to the post office to have them hand-processed, though, even if the seal is on the inside.  Sometimes even then they can get caught in the machines and you certainly don't want your beautiful invitations getting destroyed or mangled.

  • I did wax seals, with a glue gun, on the outer envelope for our save-the-dates. Had them hand-canceled at the post office. Turned out great and arrived at their destinations with no problems.

Going to do the same when we send out the invites.
