Wedding Invitations & Paper

Re: ..

  • I totally agree with you.  I know I'm gonna sound like a total snob (I swear I'm not) but I cringe every time I see a bride all excited over the $7 she spent on her Vista Print invitations.  I mean no offense to those who went the $7 VP route, but in my humble opinion, your wedding deserves way way better than cheap, mass-produced invites.

We hired a designer.  Invites and our other stationery items are important to us and we feel they contribute to the overall tone of the wedding.  We aren't spending anywhere near a fortune (our bill for STDs, invites, and programs is just over $600 for 142 people) and we're supporting a local artist, which was also important to us.

I just feel we spend so much time planning a wedding that reflects our interests and our relationship, and we do our wedding a disservice by slacking on the stationery.

It seems that many ladies just think that it's "something people will read, make a note and toss"

I adore good stationery and used the very best we could find as it was a priority with us
  • It's important to me, too.  Hate to say it, but I think what people say about invites are true - it really does give you the first impression of how the wedding is going to be.  I didn't think about it much until I started planning my own wedding - I seriously had 2-3 people use the subject of my wedding as a platform to talk about how terrible they thought recent invitations they had received for other weddings were, which really surprised me.  I thought about becoming a graphic designer before I decided to pursue something totally different, but I still love design =]

Obviously there are more important things to spend money on in a slim budget, though.  I'm sure a lot of girls who use budget invites would absolutely love to have top of the line wedding stationary, but when it is between that and having good food or good entertainment I'll say I have to agree with their choice to forego pricey invites.

  • I used to sell wedding invitations in college, so I always knew this was a detail I would splurge on.  Fortunately, I found a great letterpress printer and my invites are going to come in way under budget.
  • I absolutely love stationary too, and have saved all invitations and programs from our friend's weddings.  I know most people throw them out, but not me, so I want quality invitations for myself and random others to keep.  I don't judge what other people use, I just want myself to have the best that I can get :)  Right now I'm interested in The Green Kangaroo, their samples are great quality and it's thermo print.

  • I don't have alot to spend, but invitations are very important to me.  I want something classic and sophisticated looking, but not boring, so it's really hard for me to please me.  I do have major invitation envy of most brides.

I do too! I do love stationary, but due to budget restrictions, I had to compromise & go for VP. For me, photography was more important than stationary, so my money went there. It's all about what you love & what you feel is important. What I would give for letterpress!
  • We're spending twice the national average on letterpress invitations with imported paper. That's in a wedding costing half the national average, with lots of elements one quarter or less than the national average. Stationery is important to both of us. The paper invitation is always important to me when I'm invited to a wedding.
  • I agree.  Paper quality is important to me.  I splurged on laser printable wood veneer.  But I efficiently designed the invite so that I could fit 2 to a sheet.

  • We just bought our invite set yesterday! We didn't do the fancy paper (we did smooth), but that allowed us to get the entire set of paper needs from invite to RSVP to detail to thank you to program to place setting. I LOVED sitting down at the stationery store! Can't wait to see our proofs!
