Invite Wording - 1st or 3rd Person?

Hey everyone,
I'm just about to turn in wording for our invites and didn't know whether I should use first person or third person (I've seen it both ways).  Please help me choose!! Both choices are below -- any comments are greatly appreciated!

Option 1 (third person):

Because you have shared in their lives

with your friendship and love

Catalina M----- C------

and

Michael A--- K----

together with their parents

request the honor of your presence
at the celebration of their marriage

Saturday, the ninth of April
two thousand and eleven
at three o'clock in the afternoon

Option 2 (first person):

BECAUSE YOU HAVE SHARED IN our LIVES

WITH YOUR FRIENDSHIP AND LOVE, we

Catalina M----- C------

AND

Michael A--- K----

TOGETHER WITH our PARENTS

REQUEST THE HONOR OF YOUR PRESENCE
AT THE CELEBRATION OF our MARRIAGE

SATURDAY, THE NINTH OF APRIL
TWO THOUSAND AND ELEVEN
AT THREE O'CLOCK IN THE AFTERNOON

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Re: Invite Wording - 1st or 3rd Person?

  • Wedding invitations are typically issued in the third person.

Honestly, I don't think the whole "Because you have shared in their lives..." intro.  I would just start with:
    Bride
    and
    Groom
    Together with their parents
Request the honor of your presence...
  • Third person.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I'm having the same delima. I know that third party is more traditional, but I think first person is so much warmer and more inviting. And, well, it's an invite to our closest friends and family, right? Why wouldn't we want to be warm and inviting?

  • Ours said something along these lines: "Together with our families we invite you to share in the joy of our marriage", then it listed names and details...  To me it was easier that way than try to deal with wording because of divorced parents, although I know there are wording guides.

  • Third person is the standard. That said, I've been married twice and both times used first person... just because I liked it better.
