XP: STD Addressing Etiquette

I am getting ready to send out the Save the Dates to my May 2013.  I was wondering what the etiquette is for addressing the save the date's with guest.  I know every guest with a significant other gets invited with that significant other by name.

I am asking about guests not in a relationship for whom I'd like to allow to bring a plus one.  Is it sufficient to send the Save the Date to "Ms. Jane Doe" and then send the invitation to "Ms. Jane Doe and Guest" or should I send the Save the Date to "Ms. Jane Doe and Guest" as well?  Is it ok to leave the "and guest" off the STD since I think it will look a little weird?  Also I am not 100% sure we can offer our truly single guests a plus one and I don't want to promise anything on the STD that I can't follow through with on the invitation (and I know STD = invitation).  Thoughts?

Summary: Do I put "and guest" on the STD for the truly single guests?
