proper dress wording on invites

I am helping a friend plan her daughters wedding and we have a problem.  The ceremony isin a church, the bride and groom are dressing formally as are the attendants.  The reception is outside with a tent, lighting, linens, catering, etc.  The problem is, that even though the grooms family is aware of all this, they have declared that "it's just an outdoor party" and are planning to wear jeans.  How do we word the invitations to reflect the mood of the event?

I agree with everything LTB said. If guests show up in jeans, they'll look foolish. Try not to worry about it.

personally, I LIKE knowing the dress code.  I say you should write "Semi-Formal attire is requested" at the bottom of the invite in a font size a little smaller than the rest. i do agree that telling people is great, but it should also be on the invite.

    <div>No, it shouldn't.  It's rude.  </div>

Yeah, I wouldn't even know what semi-formal means. Is that different than business casual? Should guys wear a tie? A jacket? it opens more questions than it answers.

The formality of your invitations is the single best way to let guests in on how formal the wedding will be.

  • I am thinking about adding the dress code to my wedding site and then putting my wedding site adress on the invitations for more information.
