Wedding Invitations & Paper

Mailing invitations

I'm getting ready to send out our invitations and will be hand delivering them to the post office in person. Are there any special requests that I need to make at the post office for mailing out wedding invites? I heard that you should ask them to individually stamp the envelopes instead of running them through a machine to prevent any unnecessary markings. Is there anything else that I should ask about? I know our invitations are bound to get marked up or even lost in the mail, which is out of my control.. Hopefully they will be delivered in good condition though.

Re: Mailing invitations

  • I'm not sure what the hand canceling thing is but we had 66 invites and I purchased customized stamps for each envelope then just dropped them off at the post office.  I don't recall any invitations I received with the 'machine' stamp usually they have the wedding bands or cake stamp on them (ours was customized with our picture).

Ha, okay, but in all seriousness. Essentially you can just drop them in the mail.  I had customized postage but requested to the PO worker than mine be handcancelled and they obliged.  It depends on the office.
  • ITA, it depends on the post office. My local post office has a cardboard cutout that they fit the invitation through (in front of the person mailing them) to make sure they meet whatever guidelines there are for the postage amount. I requested hand cancelling, but I have no idea if they did this after I left them there. All my guests got them (except my son in DC.........that is still missing 5 months after sending them). Thankfully he didn't actually NEED to receive one as he was in the wedding.
