Wedding Invitations & Paper

DIY invite resources

Hi ladies-
I’m getting a head start on my invites since I’ll be DIY-ing them.  Anyone know of any good tutorials out there?
Moreover, for those that have gone the DIY route, where do you find the template or graphics?  The paper?  Do you get them printed professionally or print them yourself?
As you can see…. I really don’t know where to start, any advice is welcome.  Thank you!
Janie

Re: DIY invite resources

  • I looked online at a million invitation vendors... David's Bridal, Wedding Paper Divas, American Wedding, Wedding Chicks, etc. and tried to get an idea of what I liked. The DIY kit I bought (BRIDES from Michael's) came with a tutorial and templates, but I didn't really love those, so I created a design myself using Word -- nothing fancy, just text.
Unfortunately our printer blows and wouldn't print on the cardstock, and I didn't want to invest in a new printer, so we had to take the invites, RSVP cards, everything to a local print shop to be printed. It cost about $100 to have them print everything, but that only made our total cost for invitations $220ish.
Personally I found it to be stressful and time-consuming.. I almost gave up and purchased a simple DB invitation suite that would have cost $211 (invitations, RSVP cards, accommodations cards, and all the envelopes). Just make sure you look around at plenty of examples for inspiration before you purchase anything!
