Just postcards

Is it a bad idea to not do a "formal" invitation and just send a postcard invite out?

Re: Just postcards

  • How would they RSVP?

Also, I think it implies a REALLY casual wedding.

Some people might also have issues with safety - anyone can look at the postcard and see the details of your wedding - unless you put them in an envelope.

  • Yes, I think it's a bad idea for multiple reasons.

    1. A postcard would be very, very casual.
    2. You can't fit that much information on just a postcard.
    3. All the information about your wedding is available for anyone to see.  There are many safety issues revolving around that.
    4. More likely to get lost/throw away because they're a flat piece of paper.

If you're dong a backyard BBQ and aren't really looking for an RSVP, and it's the sort of thing where people can show in jeans, yeah, it will be fine.

We just got e-vited to a wedding.  It's in a neighborhood clubhouse, we're supposed to wear jeans, etc.  A postcard would have been appropriate.

If you are doing the typical semi-formal wedding, no.

I see no need to type all that again, since MyNameIsNot said it so well.  So, please re-read.  :D

  • Thank you.  One of my students is getting married (very young!) and asked me if I liked her idea for her invites.  I was not sure what I thought of them, so I figured I would get some opinions.
