Wedding Invitations & Paper

Reception card help!

So sorry I keep posting about different parts of the invitation but I just feel so lost. I have no idea how to word the reception card. I want to communicate that there will be a reception at a different place than the ceremony and that it will start at 6:30pm.

How do I say this? Also, some knotties were having a discussion on whether it should be half past six or half after six. Some said the first was reserved for funerals. Is this right?

How would you word it?

Please help.

Re: Reception card help!

  • I think the whole funeral thing is just a weird myth - Emily Post says that "half after" is correct, but not because "past" is for funerals. I think that's the strangest thing that so many people throw that around.

The most simple way of wording the reception card is like this:

    Reception

    Half after six o'clock

    Name of Venue
    address
    city, state

Ours actually has more design elements to it and has slightly different wording, but above are the basics.
  • would you say "Half after six o'clock in the evening" or just drop the "in evening entirely"?

  • You don't need to add "in the evening" because guests will know that you aren't inviting them to a reception that early in the morning. :)
  • hehehe thanks :)

Seriously. I've never seen anything like that anywhere except on the Knot. It makes absolutely no sense and I'd bet money it's not true.

That said, half after IS the standard for invitations.

"in the evening" is optional. I usually like it, but it's just personal taste--you can include it or not as you like.
