How to include "Dr." in set of parents hosting

I'm helping a friend with her invitation wording and she'd like it to read:

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Johnson
and
Mr. and Mrs. Dr. John Schmidt

But I have a feeling that wording is incorrect.  Can anyone help me?

Assuming the man is a medical doctor, Doctor should be spelled out, so

    Mr. and Mrs. Fred Johnson
    and
    Doctor and Mrs. John Schmidt

I assume the woman is the doctor? Have you asked her?
