Flat or Folded? Which is more formal

Hi Ladies,

I had always pictured a traditional flat invitation, but I completely love this folded one, except that it's, well... folded.
The embossing pattern is lovely, and completely what I want.
BUT, is it less formal to have a folding invitation?
If I get the folded one, do the additional cards go inside the fold?

Thanks for your help!

Re: Flat or Folded? Which is more formal

  • Do you mean that each card is folded, but printed on the top "flap"? If so, that's actually the traditional way - so it's not any less formal than flat papers. The additional cards would be stuffed in the envelope on top of the invite, not folded in the invites.
  • Yes, folded over, but the printing is on the top flap.
Also, would it drive anyone else crazy that the fold isn't exact?

<div>Yep, that would drive me nuts. Is it incredibly off that you think you might need to have new ones made? Or is it a fold you can fix?</div>
  • It's embossed, so I don't really think refolding is an option. It's only off by about 3 millimeters. At least I'm not the only one who would be driven nuts by it!
  • No, not at all. The folded invitation is also a traditional one. Besides, it's also the content which would decide whether or not it's formal.
