"Accepts" or "Accepts with pleasure"?

What is the opinion of the ladies on this board on putting "Accepts" or "Accepts with pleasure"?  Which is preferable?

And likewise, "Declines" or "Declines with regret"?

Re: "Accepts" or "Accepts with pleasure"?

  • Some people on this board don't like "accepts with pleasure/declines with regret" because they feel it is putting words in other people's mouths.  It also can come off as a little stuffy if your wedding is meant to be informal.

I did use the accepts with pleasure/declines with regret wording because I feel it is traditional/formal which fits with my wedding.
  • Accepts / Declines is just formal enough.

If you want to go very formal you don't have response cards at all.  They're a relatively new invention.

However the idea of putting "with pleasure" and "with regret" on your response cards is incorrect because it is presumptuous.

    Ditto.

(And now I'm ducking because the last time I said "ditto banana" I was basically told I would be an unfit parent).

  • We're using "joyfully accepts" and "regretfully declines"

I don't feel as strongly as some others do, but really, it's not at all traditional. Checking off boxes itself is new within, oh, the past 15 years or so. So there is no "traditional" way to handle it.
