Wedding Invitations & Paper

Printing costs

I was planning to just go to Kinko's to get my invitations printed today...  But now I think I want a nicer style of printing, like letterpress or thermography.  I know costs vary by region, but ballpark, how much are we talking?  I have the invitation already designed and I even have paper, I just need it printed.  I just want to know if it's reasonable to squeeze a nicer print into my budget.

I'm really, really hoping to be able to do this today, and I'm going to start calling places as soon as they open to get estimates, but any insight you can provide would be a huge help.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

Re: Printing costs

  • Letterpress is mega expensive.  I'm not sure how much, but a lot.  Thermography is a lot more affordable, but I'm not sure too many printers will let you bring your own paper.

I don't know exact prices, because I decided long ago to print at home.

  • I got a quote from a local printer based on 100 invitations with outer envelopes, response cards, and return address printed on envelopes.  For raised print: $204, and for flat print: $182.  I'm not sure if this is a good price - would be curious to hear what other people have been quoted.
  • If that includes the paper, I think it's an excellent price.  If not. . . I'd be a lot less excited.

  • I've also found that the bulk savings is really a factor.  One place I called quoted me $120 for 20... and $170 for 500.  Since I only need 40, printing will probably be too expensive.

Then again, the paper I have is 140lb silver cardstock, so I don't think my home printer can handle it.  :/

  • My quote was for printing costs only - I already have all the materials.  Yeah, not that great, huh?
