Wedding Invitations & Paper

save the dates....ideas?

Hello, so I had a wedding that I was planning, and canceled it. Now I know more of what I want and I am going for a smaller, more intimate wedding. (Originally 130 people, now planning to invite about 60). I was thinking about sending out a New STD for the new guests. Should I? Or should I just send out the invitations when the time is near? If I do send out new STD's I was thinking of a DIY project with a slight comical feel so that people will really like it. I was thinking about a clapboard - like "Round 2", or "take 2"..... but really don't know. Or how about something with a poem?  We are looking at the month of April. What are some of your ideas? Thanks!!

  • Since you're doing a smaller wedding, I'd probably nix the STDs, but I wonder what the etiquette experts will say in regards to cutting the guest list after a first batch of STDs went out.  I'm pretty stumped on that one.

However, my personal opinion is to stay away from the comical stuff or poems.  I think that would just come across as sort of awkward.
  • Yeah, IDK about the etiquette, but the first batch went out last February, for a November wedding. We canceled in June by sending out cancellation letters for personal reasons. So now that we are able to get back on track, we needed to cut our list dramatically to those who are very close and dear to us. The other people, we would love to have there, but we just cannot afford it. To spare people's feelings we were just going to elope... but then the mothers started. Planning a wedding could be so difficult!!!! LOL. I did ask a professional wedding planner her opinion about this, and her response was, "Its YOUR wedding, You can do anything you want to do!" Geez... thats easier said than done! Right?

  • If you sent out cancellation letters, then you are under no obligation to invite any of the original guest list.

However, if you're having a really small wedding, then I don't see the need in sending STDs this time around.  Just call people and let them know of your new plans, then send out invitations when the time is right.

  • Agreed with pp.  Plus, if you're thinking April 2012, that's 5 months away.  You would need to send STDs pronto.

Personally, I wouldn't spend the money on them.  I would just spread your wedding date by word of mouth and then if you have a lot of OOT guests, although invites typically should be sent 6-8wks prior to the wedding, I would send yours at 10wks out.  (This is only if you do not do an STD though)
  • Thanks, I like the idea of sending an invite 10 weeks out, and then I won't need to send out more STD's. That would mean I need to send them Feb. 18th. Thanks for your help!
