RSVP Online

I am not really worried about the "etiquette" on this matter but more how people really feel about asking guests to RSVP online. IMO it's such a waste of money to send a card and pay for postage especially in this day and age where everything is online and so technologically advanced. Thoughts?

My younger cousins did this for their wedding and it was really convenient.

As Edie said, as long as you have a phone number to call as well (for the less tech savvy guests), I see nothing wrong with it.

I was thinking that I could also order maybe like 10-20 RSVP cards for the grandparents and such since I am using VP.

Ditto PP in that there is still a minority of guests who wouldn't feel comfortable RSVPing online.  If you don't want to do RSVP cards, I'd give them the options to RSVP online, through e-mail, or telephone.

I MO, this could be done for only the most casual of weddings.

If this is a very casual wedding, go for it. A formal wedding, on the other hand, and you may want to rethink this. 

That said, if your guests would be okay with it and you have a way to make sure that everyone can RSVP, that's fine.

Some friends of ours did that, it worked well.

What constitutes a "casual" wedding??

 I am having my wedding at an art gallery in Seattle and it's not black tie but it's not street clothes type of casual. I am having kind of a non-traditional vibe by having it at a art gallery and not doing flowers and by doing mobile food cart as our catering (which is a really up and coming thing in Seattle).

I don't think the formality of the event matters esp if you don't worry about etiquette.  We are doing this for two reasons...1. All in it'll save us $80-100 to not buy reply cards and postage.  We are paying for our own wedding so every penny counts. 2. My FI extended family does get etiquette that only those on the envelope are invited (I was told this by my FMIL) so using our weddingwire site will allow people to only rsvp for guests on the list (you have to type in say the family's last name and only those invited show up).  I figure though if they don't get the etiquette of an addressed envelope they aren't going to know online RSVPs aren't Emily Post-approved.  Go for it!

My FI and I are having a non-traditional wedding with a more laid back feel. We are making it where people can either RSVP online or simply call us. I know several of my older family members don't even use a computer. Giving people the option should work just fine. We are also doing it to save money as others have stated.
