Hand write place cards?

If I am hand writing the place cards and escort cards, should I write them in cursive or extremely neat print? I'm going to use a silver sharpie on the escort cards in a cursive I think, and then I'm torn on how to do the place cards. When I ordered the folded Vistaprint business cards I thought I could put them through the printer but turns out I can't, so hand writing it is (I'm on a budget). Any suggestions?

Ditto.  Also, you might want to rule a very light pencil line to keep your writing straight.  Erase it afterwards with a gum eraser.
  • Are you having escort and place cards? Why both?
  • Often, brides put escort cards outside on a reception table and then place the place cards at each seat to let the guest know which seat is theirs.

Brides also use a seating chart in the reception area and then place cards at each table setting.

I would suggest using neat print if it's easier to read than your script.
  • even better do you know someone who has amazing cursive?
I have a friend that does & my brother knows calligraphy... maybe someone you know can help too - no need to do everything - you need some time to relax :D

  • Thanks for all the replies.

We are doing escort cards to direct people to their table. We have to have place cards per the venue's request and indicate their menu selection on it (by color, a small symbol, something discrete).

I wish I didn't have to have place cards-would be so much better.

Why can't you combine the 2 and somehow note on the escort card what the guest is having? Like on the back.
I have never seen actual place cards at a wedding. Its hard enough doing a seating charts with just escort cards, assigning seats just seems like a lot of extra work

The venue requires that there is a place card denoting which entree the guest is having at their seat, for the convenience of their servers, I wouldn't have chosen to do it that way but it's what they require.

I may do a chalkboard or some sort of cute idea that has lists ie "Table 1: Susan, Bob, Joe, etc." and then the placecards are at the table.
