addressing envelopes for plus 1

I have a handful of guests who do not have significant others, but I am inviting them with a plus 1.  What is the etiquette for addressing those envelopes?  Does plus one go on the save date envelope? does it only go on the inside envelope with the invitation?  or do I address the invitation as Ms. Jane Doe and guest...

Re: addressing envelopes for plus 1

  • If you have an inner and outer envelope, it should be

    Mr. John Smith (outer envelope)
Mr. Smith and Guest (inner envelope)

For the save the date, I'm not sure if this is "proper" or not, but I would put Mr. John Smith and Guest in case he needs to make airline reservations or travel arrangements in advance.

And if you don't have an inner envelope it's fine to just do Mr. John Smith and guest on the outer.

If you're certain that you'll be able to accommodate +1s then it's fine to put it on the STD. Just remember that once you've invited someone witha  guest you can't later rescind that, even if money ends up being tighter than you'd hoped.

  • We didn't put +1 on the STD.

Where we were inviting +1 on the invites, we used & Guest if we didn't know the name - we didn't have inner and outer envelopes - just 1.
