Wedding Invitations & Paper

Anyone NOT doing pocketfolds?

It never crossed my mind to do pocketfold invites, but as I stalk bios to get ideas and whatnot it seems all I can find are examples of pocketfold invites.

Anyone out there have a couple inserts, their invitation, and RSVP and are not doing a pocketfold? If so, are you tying it all together with a ribbon or anything? I'm looking for cute ideas and inspiration.

Also, it's odd to me that etiquette dictates that all the inserts go on top of the invitation. I know that the idea is probably to make sure nothing gets left behind in the envelope, but how bad would it be if I put the invite on top? All my inserts are probably going to be the same size as the invite.

  • Sorry for the double post..the Knot was exploding.

  • We didn't do pocket folds.  We just put the inserts we had in the envelope on top of the invitation itself.   Not sure about the etiquette, but I think as long as it all gets there it really doesn't matter what is on top.

  • Smallest to largest from the top down is the "rule," and since the invite is normally the largest, it's on the bottom.

I'm doing pocketfolds.  But. . . here's a knottie who didn't:  Januarybride.  You'll have to scroll down a bunch, though.

  • I think it would be easy to miss smaller inserts if they were under the invitation.  If they're all the same size, I think you could have the invitation on top.  You could tie a nice ribbon around everything, or maybe bind it together like a little book.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • I'm not doing pocketfolds and I may have exactly what you're looking for :) This is just a mock up of my idea...

I'm just concerned that people won't notice the inserts on the back. What do you think?

  • I didn't do pocketfolds.  I put my inserts on top of my invitations because they were smaller.

If you'd like to see mine, take a look at my bio under DIY.  There's a link at the very top that says paper products.  Mine are under there!
  • I'm concerned about your inserts on the back too.  it's a cute idea, but I might actually turn the invite face down when you put it in the envelope so that the inserts are up.  They'll flip the big card over to look for the invite.

I love this idea, but you're right some people may not realize that the inserts are back there. Hmm..

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Anyone NOT doing pocketfolds? : Oh that's a good idea! I like that... may do it if we stick with that design. I also really like January Bride's way of wrapping everything with ribbon, I just wonder if the knots would make it bulky and mess up the mailing process. Her bio didn't mention it, but it still worries me.

Some people say the post office complains about the ribbon.  Some have no issues.  I think it depends on how the knot is tied (less ribbon and not tied super tight would make the knot thin and squishy, which should help).
