Wedding Invitations & Paper

Invitation Budget

Hi everyone -
We are beginning the invite process and have no idea what a reasonable budget is. We are looking to invite around 300 guests so we'll have about 175-200 invites being mailed out. If any of you could start me off with some budget ideas I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks -
Ashley

I think you might have overestimated how many invites you need.

    I know I did initially!

Most people would be invited as couples and families, I'd assume, so you'd probably need 150 max.

The price entirely depends on the quality you're going for and the extent to which you want to DIY. Some brides have done the DIY kits from Michaels or Target for about $1 an invite.
I spent $5 apiece on mine (heavy cardstock, custom designed, and professionally printed). I've seen some invites go for $20 apiece plus.

<div>This. Most of us forget that inviting 100 people does not mean you need 100 invitations. And the price is indeed going to fluctuate based on where you go. They come in a huge variety of styles and quality. I would go to an invitation site and do some mock-ups of some that you like and get an idea of how much they are going to cost. </div>
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Don't forget stamps in your budget for both invitations and response cards if you're having those. DH and I did wedding paper divas flat invites for 1.74 apiece. The paper was heavy and had a really nice texture. I loved the paper! We ordered 4x6 prints from Shutterfly of one of our engagement photos for .15 each but got 50 free because of a promo they have for new people signing up. We also purchased cheap tissue paper for a couple bucks from Joanns and cut it ourselves with a borrowed paper cutter. It ended up being really cheap and looked nice. We did not do response cards because we had a cake and punch reception.
  • It REALLY depends on what you have in mind...

If you're looking for budget-conscious invitations, you'll find some cute invites in the $1-$3 range. They will tend to be no larger than 5X7, up to 110lb paper, typically one or two ink colors, and typically NOT letterpress (though I have seen some reasonably priced basic letterpress invites...)

If you're looking for very formal or glamorous invitations, they can range from $8+. Mine personally ended up being about $40 per invite (but it included various inserts and envelopes) and it can even go up from there!

  • Reasonable?  That depends upon your taste, customs, and importance of the invitations in the scheme of things.  You might want to look at a range of invitations -- from DIY styles sold in craft stores, to custom letterpress and hand-written products -- to get a feel for what the two of you would like.  Then, figure out what the budget might be.  There really is no set proportion.

    Good luck!
  • I saved a ton of money for my Kauai wedding by ordering a PDF of a custom digital design through Etsy then printing it through Vistaprint.  If you sign up for vistaprint coupons, they frequently have half-off coupons that were sent out.  Doing the invites this way was wayyy cheaper for me than buying paper ones, and I got a custom design that was unique.

Try searching on Etsy for designs.  I love this shop:
