No kids wording

My fiance and I are not inviting kids to the wedding, but we want to word it appropriately. We know that by not addressing the envelope to the entire "family" that it should be implied, however we were wondering if we should include something on the response cards  ___ / 2  This meaning how many out of 2 people invited. Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks!

Don't address anything to "The Smith Family". Address it to Mr. and Mrs. Smith. 

You can do that on the response cards, but honestly people who want to bring their kids will probably try ti RSVP with them anyway. But these are some wording options: (the first line can be worded in different ways, just giving you some examples).

Kindly reply by the (date)

_x_ seats have been reserved in your honor

M_________

___number attending

___declines

Please reply by the (date)

M___________

__ of _x_ attending

__declines

The only problem with doing this is say 1 of the invited adults can't come, someone could theoretically substitute a child because they have 2 seats reserved for them.

Nope. It's considered rude.

I agree with Stage.  If you put the person's name on a line, it sends a clearer message.

But no matter what you do (even if you put NO KIDS in neon orange letters on the RSVP) you're going to have people who try to bring their kids anyway.  Be prepared to call those guests and "clarify" that the invitation was just for John and Jane.

Stage had a good suggestion.

Besides that, you could just address it to Mr. and Mrs. Smith. If they RSVP for the kids too, you could call them up and explain that the invitation was just for them. Even doing Stage's suggestion, I personally know of some people who would STILL insist on writing in kids' names. It might be unavoidable to not have that happen at least once. In that case, you need to call and deal with it politely but firmly. IF they threaten to not attend, let them know they will be missed.

It was suggested to me that we address the invites to exactly who we want to come to the wedding: "Mr. and Mrs. Joe Smith" and nobody else.  Then, on our wedding website reception/ceremony page we wrote "This is an adults only event."

Hello Everyone,

I am on the countdown to marrying my best friend. I am running into an issue because it time for us to order invitations and I wanted some advice on how to word it. I dont want there to be any extra children there but the ones that are actually in the wedding party. How would you suggest that I word this and should i include this on the invitiation or the response card?
