Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

throws

hey ladies!

i'm having a destination wedding in new orleans.  our ceremony will be indoors at the house of blues.  i'm trying to think of something that i can have our guests throw as we walk down the aisle and exit.

i dont want to do bubbles or flower petals.  we could do confettii but that seems kind of boring.  i was thinking of beads but that might make it hard to walk.

any ideas?  thanks!  you guys always have awesome ideas!

Re: throws

  • I am planning on having dried lavender buds thrown, but we will be outside for that part and I think the smell could be overwhelming inside. I've seen really cool pictures of sparklers or ribbon wands, which aren't really "throws" but it's the same idea.
  • I don't think throwing confetti is boring. I do think that throwing beads would not only make it dangerous to walk, but might actually hurt.  I think many people have taken to throwing birdseed or something along those lines - I can't think of why someone would want to do that, but to each their own.

Instead of small confetti, what about larger confetti?  Pieces of curled ribbon along with the confetti -- think of the 1940's when the soldiers came home from war - like ticker tape parades.

  • Beads is an awful idea.  Think any old comedy you've seen where they put marbles or other round things on the floor.   Slip Slidin' away.  And the thought of grandma walking back up the aisle that's covered in beads?  Whew-pretty dangerous.

Check with the venue and see what they allow.  Many don't allow anything to be thrown, so your options may be decided for you.

  • We're not doing anything. I've been to enough weddings to see that if you give family stuff to throw at you as you exit, they will literally throw it AT you, not above you. I don't need to get beaned in the face with birdseed/rice/bubbles/confetti, etc.

Just something to think about, especially if your eyes are super-sensitive like mine (I had laser eye surgery, so even if I get an eyelash in there, I'm miserable for hours).
