Pocketfold invite.. postage cost?

For those who used or plan to use a pocketfold invite how much will each invite cost to mail? Will you be able to get away with a 44 cent stamp? I have been thinking about the pocketfold invites but I am concerned about shipping cost. I know I can do a mock-up and then have it weighed but I was just curious if anyone else has already tacked this.

Thanks!!

Re: Pocketfold invite.. postage cost?

  • Most non-pocketfold invites cost .61 cents to mail so I say the odds of mailing a pocketfold invite for .44 cents are pretty close to nil. I think most people do spend 1.05.

  • I had pocketfolds with 4 inserts plus matting and bellyband and mine cost $0.61 to mail plus the RSVP postage of $0.44 ...
  • Thanks for the info ladies! I really appreciate it. I have really been loving the idea of a pocketfold invite lately and I think I might just do a trial and have it weighted at the post office. At least then I would have a good idea.
  • I was able to make my own pocket folds w/80# cardstock.  I did the kangaroo style so on the front is the main invite and the back has the pockets with inserts.

I went to 3 post offices and was exactly at 1oz so I got away with $0.44 cent stamps.  I also lined my envelopes too.

  • Ours were $1.05 because they were too thick in the center.  By weight they were just $0.61.

  • Mine were $0.88.  I had to pay the extra $0.17 because they were over 1 ounce, but on top of that, my post office charged me some strange fee because they weren't bendable!  I forget what it amounted to, but basically it would have required 3 or 4 different stamps on the envelopes.  Which would not only look ugly, but I wasn't about to stand there and put 3 additional stamps on 70 envelopes!  So I just paid a few cents extra and put two 44 cent stamps on there.
  • I went to the Post Office a week before I mailed my invitations and was told that the whole packet would be $1.39 to mail (not counting the reply envelope at 44¢). I went back a week later and asked for the postage and the lady looked at me funny and said it would be 61¢ for the main envelope. I told her the other woman quoted me $1.39. She and another employee confirmed the 61¢ and I mailed my invations out (I did put the 44¢ on the reply envelopes) and so far, people are calling me to tell me how much they love the invitations.

That said, just take a completed set to the post office and have them weigh it and make sure it's classified as a first class letter and not a package. <-- That's what the first lady was trying to tell me. That it was a package because of its thickness.
