TRI-FOLD INVITATIONS: Need advice on internal "envelope" situation

Hi! I am addressing invitations for my brother's wedding, and instead of ordering the normal formal inner envelope/outer envelope situation i am accustomed to, he ordered tri fold invites.

They essentially have an outer envelope and the tri-fold looks like an inner envelope. Can I address the "envelope-like" side of these tri-folds as though it was an inner envelope with the casual name for his guests?

Thanks for your help!
JC

Re: TRI-FOLD INVITATIONS: Need advice on internal "envelope" situation

  • I suppose you could.

I'd suggest doing a "seal" over the fold portion. Attach a small piece of cardstock with guests' names on it to just one of the flaps, so it looks sealed but it really can be opened without tearing the seal/folds.

Another option is a belly band with the same idea.
  • sorry i think i was a little unclear. I am wondering if i can use the back of the invitation (the flat side, not the folded/sealed side) to address the guest casually. I haven't been able to find any such advice anywhere... forgoing the internal name address seems not possible

  • Personally I would just leave the trifold and either seal it with a seal or bellyband, and leave the names for the outer envelope.  Inner envelopes aren't standard these days or required, so no need to force the inner envelope names in without a real spot for them.

What do your brother and his FI want?
  • I knew that's what you meant - I'm just saying that it might be a better idea to put the seal/name on the front of the invite, rather than the back.

Invites should be stuffed in envelopes so that when you open the envelope you see the front of the invitation. The way you described has the invitations going in backwards, and that to me seems strange.

Inner envelopes aren't necessary, so you can certainly skip this, but if you do want to have an "inner envelope" I think it needs to be a seal or belly band.

Agreed.  If you put names on (which I really do think is unnecessary here) then they should go on the front, not the back.
