We have an outer and inner envelope. We did Mr and Mrs John Doe on the outer and John and Jane Doe on the inner.
What we did not do was use formal names on the outer. So we had Mr and Mrs Ed Smith instead of Edward. It just didn't feel right adressing them that way and we were both in agreement. Now, I'm not so sure. My FI's name is Jeff but he wouldn't think twice if it wasn't addressed to Jeffery. So, it's this a big no no???
Also, for those with a guest, it was written on the outer envelope - Ms. Mary Smith and guest. It wasn't supposed to be that way but my sister addressed them and that's how she did it. I can re do a few but we only have a limited number of extra envelopes. Should I bother? Will I offend someone with the And guest on the outer envelope? At first I was very unhappy with it. But then I realized that if we did only have the outer then you have to put and guest on there so they know they ge a plus one right?
I completely appreciate my sister doing it because she has awesome writing, but I wish I would have been more clear with what I wanted. Totally my fault.
