write out time on invitation -?

So my ceremony is at 1:30 and have seen this many ways.  Should i put:

half past one o'clock
half past one in the afternoon (prefer to not use this one - its too lengthy)
half past one
half after one

any other recommendations? its not a formal wedding but want it to make sense and look good on paper.

TIA.

Re: write out time on invitation -?

  • I would say "half past one o'clock." There's no need to specify that it's in the afternoon, since you certainly wouldn't extend an invitation to an event that started at 1:30 in the morning!
  • It is half after. Lean towards the British phrases and spellings (such as honour and favour) when writing out invitations. It looks more formal and is proper for invitations. But you do not need "in the afternoon." PP is right, your wedding wouldn't be at 1am.

  • I've been told that if it's a less formal event, "1:30" is okay too.

That's the way I'd word a birthday party invite.  There's an "informal" wedding - and then there's INFORMAL.
