Wedding Invitations & Paper

Absolutely cannot decide on invitations! HELP!

Wedding is 5.5 months away and I've spent more time looking for invitations than everything else combined. I have looked at a couple stationary shops and found absolutely nothing, and endless online vendors and found a few that I like but they either can't come in my colors or are way expensive...
I wanted my save the dates to coordinate with my invites, if not match, so I haven't gotten those yet either :/  Should I skip STDs and just send invites a little earlier than planned? Ahhhh!

Re: Absolutely cannot decide on invitations! HELP!

  • My sister and I both got our invitations from The Green Kangaroo - www.tgkdesigns.com.  They've changed the way you order things since we got ours (a la carte now as opposed to in sets), so I don't know if they are as reasonably priced as they were then, but you can customize font, design, colors, etc., so maybe you might find something you like?  There are a ton of possibilies.  I had just about given up on finding invitations I liked that weren't outrageously expensive when I came across the site.  I chose the Allison and my sister (BCsGal) chose the Preppy Monogram one.  We each have pictures in our bios (link to mine below and hers is http://bcsgalbio.weebly.com).

As far as STDs go, if you have a lot of people coming from out of town and want to send STDs, I think if you got them soon, you could still send them.  I would recommend ordering postcards from Vistaprint.com when they have a "100 Postcards Free" deal.  If you sign up for e-mails, you get deals like every single day.  We did that (placed 2 orders of 100).  You pay for shipping and an upload fee if you use your own image, but it's still a lot cheaper than ordering STDs from wedding sites.  Plus postcards are cheaper to mail.  I have pics of ours in my bio (my sister has pics of hers in her bio as well).  I didn't even use any fancy design software to create the design - just PowerPoint (then saved as a .jpg).

    Good luck!

  • If you can't find something you love, maybe you should try DIY? If you decide DY, you proboably wont have time for save the dates, but you'll have time for the invitations. By doing them yourself you can really make them personal and unique.

  • Save the dates are really important if your wedding date falls on a three day holiday weekend or is during summer, when a lot of people take vacations. I would forgo the save the date cards and just mail your invites the usuall six to eight weeks before your wedding date, that is plenty of time :-)
  • Have you checked www.magnetstreet.com? I would never have thought of them for invites, BUT - They have some awesome designs, and you can customize the colors yourself online, and there are always 20% off coupons floating around the net. I ordered my STDs from them and was very happy!! I am going back for my menus and programs.  The other option is to check out etsy and get something done for you. HTH! If you're just over 5  months out, it might be a good idea to skip the STDs (that way you can put your whole budget into the invitations). By the time you order them, receive them, and prep them, it will be 5 months right? Then you'd be sending the invitations just a couple of months later?

  • I had the same issues with finding nice, but inexpensive invites in my wedding colors! I decided to DIY and I just ordered my supplies from www.papersandmore.com and www.cardsandpockets.com. The customer service has been great and I can't wait to put them together! I would recommend using the invites you like as an inspiration and go from there.

  • I would say skip the "save the date" products.  These days, I think that they are largely a marketing scam.  The point is to let people know about your impending marriage but, really, all you have to do is tell a few friends and family members and news tends to spread pretty quickly about the date.

It can be important to tell out-of-towners about the date well in advance. For those guests, I took the time to call them and tell them about my engagement, and asked them to mark the date.  If you have a huge guest list, talk to a few family members and ask them to spread the news.  Or send emails to a few key friends.

Save yourself the pressure, stationery and postage, and take the time to find invitations that you really like -- in time to get the invitations out well in advance -- and you will be fine!!!

  • Check out this site.  Whether you have made your decision or not these people not only know what they are doing but they are really good at their work.  You can tell from the webpage and the style that they enjoy their work.  Check them out and I doubt you will be disappointed.  Good luck in your search.
