Wedding Invitations & Paper

USPS put stickers on my STDs!

This is more or less a heads up to anyone sending out STD postcards.  I took my postcards to the post office on Friday.  I was so excited for people to get the info for our wedding.  Come to find out... the post office put a sticker across the bottom of my postcard and completely hiding all the wedding info.  Don't get me wrong, I knew the post office would put something on the postcard but I had assumed it would be on the side with the address where they always ask to leave space on postcards.  At the very least, I never expected them to cover the most important info!  Thankfully, some people have figured it out and peeled the sticker off but others were so confused why our date wasn't on our card.  I called the post office and they said I had to ask them to do it "manually."  Really wish the lady that took them all from me who even complimented them would have said something about that!  I guess I just want to make sure I get the word out so this doesn't happen to others.

My FI suggested I call Wedding Paper Divas to let them know what happened.  Obviously, I know this isn't their issue but I thought it was a good idea since the customer service of the post office said that it was protocol to do that so I wanted to let them know this had happened.  Wedding Paper Divas was so understanding and even told me they were so sorry and would credit me some of my order.  I was not even expecting them to do that.  After a long day of dealing with this, it was nice to get good customer service from someone.

So yes, all I can say is LESSON LEARNED!  Hope everyone is having good luck with getting these sent out.  Hopefully, mine was a situation that doesn't happen to other brides out there!!  :)

  • That happened to some, but not all, of mine. I did several test runs by mailing them to myself and to my mom in the weeks before I sent them out, so I knew ahead of time it was a possibility. But the only info it was covering was my return address, which I had centered at the very bottom of the postcard, so it was no big deal really. My biggest concern was the huge holiday cancellation stamp they were using at the top over the postage in December that literally covered FI's name. Luckily by the time I was ready to send them out in January, they stopped doing that. I did call several post office locations to see about hand cancellation as suggested on these boards. The answer I kept getting was they would be willing to do a few, there was no guarantee they still wouldn't go through the machine later anyways, and there was no way they would do the quantity I had. HTH others sending postcard STDs in future to go along with your advice.

  • They did this to my friend's STDs.  This is why we advise to put them in envelopes.

  • This is also why the postcard templates from sites like Vistaprint advise you to leave that space on the bottom empty. The barcode sticker is usually put there. I'm surprised that Wedding Paper Divas prints so close to the bottom. They're more expensive than VP, but at least VP got it right.
  • I still love the idea of a postcard STD and I don't regret doing them.  My FI and I both get postcards reminders for the dentist and they don't put a sticker on the bottom of the front of those.  I am just going to consider this a lesson learned and that's why I wanted to post what had happened.

Wedding Paper Divas postcards were more expensive but like I said, their customer service was great and they even credited me back some of what I paid so I can't complain.

If this is the worst thing that happens during the next 6 months, I'd consider myself lucky!    (Trying to stay positive!)    :)
