Invitation Wording! Help!

My fiance and I have different ideas of how to word our Invitations. I think that because my parents are paying for the reception, and his parents are paying for the flowers, my parents should be listed as host. He thinks his parents should be listed as host because they paid for something. What do you think?

Re: Invitation Wording! Help!

  • They are both contributing--use both.
  • I would have your parents as hosts and his under his name:

    FH name
Son of Jane and John Doe

Or you can do: Together with their parents

But I'd check that with your parents first since they're paying the bulk of the costs and might not want to go that route.
  • CMGr, to an extent I agree with you however if both sets of parents are assisting, it can help to list both on there.

I'd talk to the brides parents first to see what they think.  My parents paid for the reception and DH's parents paid for the DJ, flowers, and photography for the day - of events.  While we know hosting doesn't equal paying, we also felt that it wasn't appropriate to take the money and stick to what is a fairly arbitrary older etiquette rule.  Both sets were listed as hosts.
