Wedding Invitations & Paper

not having envelopes, how do I address?

My invitations don't have envelopes and I don't know how to address them.  Formal or casual?  Do I include all names of those invited?  The invite is nontraditional and so is the wording of the invite, but I still want it to seem classy.  Help.

Re: not having envelopes, how do I address?

  • How can you not have envelopes?  Are they postcards?

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Are they send-and-seals without envelopes?

You can't go wrong with formal, I don't think. But I'd do:

Mr. John Smith and Mrs. Joan Smith

OR think about how each person would prefer to be addressed. Some older women might greatly prefer "Mr. and Mrs. John Smith." Some might prefer Ms. rather than Miss.

  • Can you describe what they are?  This sounds rather new!

[QUOTE]I think instead of doing this:  Mr. John Smith and Mrs. Joan Smith I'd opt for Mr. John and Mrs. Joan Smith saves space by not having to write Smith twice. :D

Etiquette dictates that you shouldn't separate a man's first name from his last name.

  • Msmerymac, I totally agree with you, but strictly going by etiquette, I think it says Mr. and Mrs. John Smith.  I guess she can address them any way she wants to??????

Unfortunately, the etiquette police aren't going to search anybody out, put a gun to their head, and stop them from committing a faux paus.  So, yes, she CAN do anything she wants.  Doesn't mean she should.  Or that we shouldn't encourage her to make the best choice that satisfies all the issues at hand.

  • Without some more info about her invites, I can't really help with how to address them.
