Sticky situation

My brother got engaged, and then had his fiancee call off the engagement, right before my fiance and I were sending out our Save the Dates. Per my brother's request (he was hoping his girl would change her mind and get back together), I went ahead and sent her a Save the Date. It's now been a few months and my brother and this girl are not getting back together. She has a new bf and my brother is seeing a new girl, as well. My question is: since I sent her a Save the Date, do I have to invite her to the wedding? Should I ask my brother how he would feel about it? I don't want any awkwardness at the wedding or reception!

Your brother's feelings aside, would you want to invite her to your wedding?

I think this is one of the VERY rare situations where you can get out of sending a wedding invite...unless you really do truly want her there and not as just a +1 for your brother.

I agree.  If you included someone as a +1 on a save-the-date who is no longer with the person you really want to invite no matter what, I think you are not obligated to invite them following a break-up with the "no matter what" person.

Only if she is your friend outside of that relationship would you need to invite her. Exes generally know they are no longer invited under the circumstances.
