Mr. and Mrs. (Husbands first and last name)?

If I am addressing an invitation to a married couple who have the same last name do I have to put:

Mr. and Mrs. (husbands first and last name)

or can I put:

Mr. and Mrs. (husbands last name)

The websites I've look at say the first one is proper but I feel kind of weird putting the husbands first name.  Is it a must or is it acceptable to put just the husbands last name?

Proper etiquette is:

Mr & Mrs. Firstname Lastname

The inner envelope (if you're doing those) would be Mr. and Mrs. last name.

If you're using outer and inner envelopes the proper way to address the envelope is:

Outer-
Mr. and Mrs. George Smith

Inner-
Mr. and Mrs. Smith


If you're not using an inner envelope then you need to designate the first name of the husband.

In addition, it is becoming more acceptable to include both first names: Mr. and Mrs. Sue and George Smith.

MyNameIsNot is correct.  More and more people are modifying that aspect of etiquette to include the wife's first name.
