Hi all - I'm a Greek American bride who is not religious, and who has opted (with her non-Greek groom) to not have a big fat Greek Orthodox wedding. We've gotten past the yelling, disappointment and severe guilt from the family (well, sort of gotten past it) and have chosen to honor my heritage (my family) by utilizing the stefana (the crowns) from the religious service in our non-religious service. We will not be using any of the readings or words that the priest would say, as we feel that would be disrespectful. Instead we're looking to use our stefana as symbols of the actual stefana used in the Orthodox ceremony. The thing is, we have no idea how to do this, and have no precedents from which to get ideas. Anyone out there experience, see, or have their own non-religious ceremony that included stefana? Help!
