Return address embosser

If you used a return address embosser, could you tell me how you found the process? I'm considering buying the Horchow one that has been recommended on these boards, but I'd love to know how long it really takes, if it is easy to line up straight, how quickly your hand started to hurt... any tips.

My other option would be to pay an extra $25 or so to get the addresses printed on the envelopes, but I think embossed looks better.

I also posted this on DIY.

Bought it from Horchow- it took only about 1 week to come in (maybe less, I don't remember). It's very easy to line up and doesn't take long at all. My hand was hurting, so I made FI do it and it took him about 15 minutes to do 150 envelopes and it didn't bother his hand at all. I think I'm just weak.

  • I didn't use a Horchow one, but I found it *super* easy.  My hand didn't really hurt at all after the 90ish envelopes I did.  It wasn't too hard to line up, but mine had a rectangular plate that had straight lines so I could eyeball it to see if it was even with the top edge, and only a few came out slightly off center, but that's because I rushed through them!  After a few you realy get the hang of it.

  • Lalanav, can I ask where you got yours from?  Many people have suggested Horchow, but their return address ones require a name+address, and I just want to have the address.    (I tried faking it out, but no luck.)

I used http://www.customembossers.com/ and only had the return address (no name) on it.  Mine was comfortable enough to use for over 100 envelopes in a night without hand cramps the next day (my old one hurt my hand after 30 envelopes).

Jaguarjen, I ordered mine off Amazon ( http://www.amazon.com/Library-Book-Embosser-Great-Gift/dp/B0010EEX1C/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=office-products&qid=1273698073&sr=8-2 ) through StampExpress.  It was a little cheaper when I ordered it (something like $22).  They send you a form after you order it where you specify the font you want, justification (right, center, etc), and what you want the plate to read (with or without name!).  The customer service was really great - they sent me a few proofs and recommended what would and wouldn't look good (the name line was too long initially).

  • Thanks! Going through Amazon never even occurred to me, and I have credit there (I get all my loose change put into Amazon e-certificates through Coinstar and consider it my free spending money), so that definitely looks like the way to go for me!
  • We got an embosser (address only) from stampxpress.com.  It was about $30 and arrived in like 3 days!  I've made my fiance do most of the embossing on our save the dates (we're working on them together to save time and spend some time togther) but my hand definitely doesn't hurt when I use it!  I think it looks really nice.  Getting the envelopes personalized for the STDs wasn't an option from the company we got them from so this at least looks professional.  Also we're going to use it for our thank yous because I figure we'll order a bunch and have some leftover and then they'll be good later on even if we move to a new address.
