Work Related advice.

Ok so as most of you know my relationship with my boss is rocky. I have a quick story but I need some advice on how to handle it cause I'm alone in the office today and have no one to bounce this off of. Several weeks ago Boss asked me to research some info for him to make a purchase, so I did. After doing so he looked it over and decided to go against my recommendation and go with something else. I pointed out that what he was looking at didn't include at all what we needed but yet he still went with it. Well it came in today and it was a complete waste. Not at all what we needed. My question is, do I call him (he's on Vacation for 10 days) and alert him of his mistake so I can buy yet another? Or do I wait for him to come back so he can see for himself the proof of his mistake?

That is a stinky situation!! If its something that your office needs ASAp to get work done, I would call him, apologize for disturbing his vacation, dont point out his error, but ask for guidance. If its not something needed asap, let him know when he gets back.

If you don't need it ASAP in order to do what needs to be done, I would wait.Otherwise, you'll have to call and get permission to return it and get another.

Any idea if he'll be checking email on vacation?  I feel like emailing him will be a bit less disruptive than calling his cell phone while still getting the point across.  It's never a good idea to make a client wait, though, and if he won't be on email, I would do exactly as Danielle said and call him.

Oh - then if it's for a client he needs to be contacted.  I'd try email first as well if you know he has access to it.  Otherwise, you should call.

I just transferrred his emails to me this morning :( The problem is I don't know protion of the work to be done so it might not be a huge deal, so I don't want to turn it into one. Mostly I think i'm just p!ssed that he didn't listen to me, and yet when he sees the mistke some how it will be my fault since I choose this company to order from. Oh and since the software has already been downloaded it's not returnable. So the money is gone we'll have to spend more

How annoying!!!  I can't figure out how this guy is able to run a department or a company or whatever it is he does.  Sounds like mostly he leans on you to do things and then goes golfing or on vacation!

ew- I really do not like your boss.  I would say wait since you don't really know if its a big deal or not. Unless the client asks about it- then you can call and say its on behalf of the client.

I am thinking that I am not going to call him. I just reread an email from him and all he asked me to do was to download the software. I did that. So I think my plan is going to be just wait, he'll call to check in sometime this week and if he askes about it I'll tell him and if he doesn't I'll explain when he gets back.
