Wedding Invitations & Paper

afternoon or evening ???

Didn't see anything posted recently about this so I'm sorry if it is infact a repost on a previous question.  I'm getting ready to order my invites - and I'm not sure if on them the time should be listed as 5 o'clock in the afternoon or 5 o'clock in the evening.  Can anyone help with which option is right?  Thanks in advance ladies!

Re: afternoon or evening ???

  • That is a good question!  I, personally, would consider 5:00 still afternoon, but I'm not sure of the official etiquette answer.  Have you tried googling this to see what comes up?

  • I did ...and from the answers I saw most said its concidered afternoon, but nothing spciifcally referenced it in rgards to it  being used on a wedding invitation.
  • I don't know which is correct. But if it were up to me, I would use evening.

  • 5:00 is still afternoon.  Evening starts at 6:00 PM
  • Ditto OOT.   Crane's states that evening begins at 6:00.

Unless your wedding is at a time that could be either AM or PM, it's not necessary to put 'in the afternoon' or 'in the evening' on your invitations.
  • Thanks for the help ladies!  I think Ill just leave it off as my reception officially starts @ 6:30 which would be PM .... I don't want it to not match (I'm OCD about that stuff).  instead of "reception cards", on the back of my invites(I designed them @ zazzle .c o m ) I'm putting the reception information as the ceremony / cocktail hour / reception are all in the same place so figured I could get away with doing it that way. Thanks again!
