Wedding Invitations & Paper

Sending invitations without save the dates.??

My fiance and I are getting married in June, and most of our guests are going to have to travel from other states. We're trying to save money so we're just doing a digital save the date, but then should we send invites in the mail sooner? Since most have to travel and there's not a formal save the date when would you suggest sending them out? Thanks!

Re: Sending invitations without save the dates.??

  • A Save the Date is generally suggested when your wedding falls during a holiday weekend and your guests are apt to make other plans. For example, when I was a kid my family missed a family member's wedding because it was during Columbus Day weekend. We had already planned our annual vacation before receiving the invitation. When I chose Saturday during Columbus Day weekend, I sent Save the Dates to let people know early on.
  • I would also add that depending on your guest list and size, STD's may not be needed.  If by word of mouth you can share your wedding date to family, and friends, I'd skip them.

Our guest list was 100 people.  30ish family, the rest close friends.  We didn't send out STD's, even though every single one of our guests, including us, is travelling to the wedding destination (still in the country though).  Our parents shared the news with aunts & uncles, we shared the news with friends.  We did send out our invites a little earlier, because it was a "destination" and holiday weekend wedding.

  • You don't need to do save the dates. We didn't and we have a lot of international guests. We just let them know as soon as we settled on a date so they could plan accordingly. It's worked out fine.
  • Our wedding was six days before Christmas and we still didn't send STD's.  Family and such and close friends, we let know by word of mouth so they could plan.
