car/suv/truck/moped do you drive?I'm currently driving a 2005 Chevy Cobalt, which I love - don't get me wrong.  But the repairs and inspection costs are killing meeeee.  I can't complain that much - I got it for under 10K and it's got over 60K miles on it but I think it's time to atleast start looking at new cars.

2005 Acura RSX.  Highly recommend Acura/Honda/Toyota for low-maintenance cars, but I'm also an import snob.  The maintenance cost is a bit higher than for American cars, but IMO, they require way fewer repairs.  Love my Acura (just wish it was a 4-door)!

Toyota Celica. I love my little sports car. they stopped making the celica though and are supposed to bring back the supra. I want one so bad.

I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am.  It has 81,000 miles on it.  Currently, the passenger side window only works sometimes.  It's been a PITA over the past year; as soon as I get it fixed, something else breaks.

LOVE my Prius (davey's has one too!). It's awesome. I've had it almost 3 years (2007) and the only thing I've had to do is oil change and air in the tires (and buy new tires). I have 70K miles on it and it still works like the day I got it.

I used to have a Colbalt!  :)I drive a Dodge Caliber, which I like a lot.  It is a cute crossover.  DH has a Dodge Journey, but it is getting a lot of miles on it so we will probably switch it up when I'm on leave and I'll drive the Journey and he will take the Caliber...his commute is pretty far.

Same as Candice, except mine has 93,000 miles. I went all summer w/o the passenger window going down. FI went to the junk yard and spent $10 on a part to fix it, the garage wanted $175.Something huge usually goes wrong right around the time my tax refund shows up.

DH drives the Prius (which he loves except it's not very good in the snow) that will be my "mom car" when we have kids.I drive a Yaris hatchback that I love and don't want to trade w/ DH just yet ;-)

P.S. since you were talking how many miles are on the cars...at the begining of September mine had under 7K (in 2 years) we put more than that on our Prius during our road trip LOL.

We just bought a Volvo S40. I love it. I have absolutely zero complaints. Its small, quick, and has an amazingly smooth ride. Love love love.We also have a 2002 Honda Civic, which was my very first car and its still running strong! Hondas last forever and are very cheap to upkeep. I've only had one major repair in 7 years and that was a new transmission this past summer. I'd buy another Honda in a heartbeat.

LOL, I think we have the oldest car here, a 1998 Pontiac Grand Am. We only buy cars with cash and I sold my car to move here. I think DH's Pontiac has about 100k miles on it, something like that.The Pontiacs have a problem with the window regulator. My DH has fixed the darn windows about 5 times total. (We won't pay a garage to do this, haha, and I have to be the mechanic's assistant in the hot sun) :)I previously had a Hyundai Elantra. I loved that car. 10 years, 100,000 mile warranty. But even if the Chevy is costing you money maintenance-wise, it is most cost effective to drive a car for years until it dies. I wouldn't change cars unless there was something very wrong with it, like a new transmission was needed.

Thanks for the regulator tip!  I had the window clip break on the drivers side, which caused the whole thing to get twisted when I kept trying to put it up & down.  My dad replaced it with a junkyard part (and he reinforced the plastic clip with metal.)  I guess I'll schedule some quality time with him again this winter to install a new regulator on the other side.

I seem to be the only gas guzzler on here - I used to drive aChevy Equinox (05), but gave that to DF after his Silverado died about 1 month ago.  I now drive an 07 Jeep grand cherokee laredo.  I love it so much.  I got the x package, and I will never go back to life without heated seats.  I am always freezing and these are great.  We've done nothing to the Equinox except tires and oil for the last 60k miles (yes, we put all that on in 18 months - we drive a lot).  As far as the jeep, Ive only owned it for 4k.  So far, one oil changed, but we had a door panel break that's warrantied (but back ordered).

Oh P.S DF's truck died at 207,000 miles (tranny literally exploded everywhere) - Chevy's are usually so die hard, that's why we have an Equinox.  We just didn't want 2 of the same car, that's why we went with a Jeep.

We have an 05 Explorer Limited also but it's not that big of a gas guzzler, it usually gets between 18-23 mpg.  DH and I will also be switching vehicles when we expand our family.

Currently, we are renting a 2009 Chevy Epica, which is as far as I can tell, a Chevy Malibu in the States. (No clue why cars have different names here!) We really love it so far! It was brand new though, so I don't expect to have any issues for a while. My friend just bought a Subaru Impreza, and it is really nice! I also love the Legacy. They are just designed really well - spacious, great design over all, and they drive really nicely. I have heard good things about the Prius and Yaris, but those are not common here, since gas is so cheap. Good luck deciding! Of all the cars my friend looked at (Nissan, Honda, and Subaru), I was definitely most impressed with the Subarus!

oh! Candice!  I have a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am as well! (4 door, GT, red). annnnd- the drivers side window doesn't work. interesting...my dream is to have a littel motorcycle or scooter- just to get to work if I dn't get the bus. FI isn't crazy about that idea tho...

I have FIs Ford Explorer because sadly my Stang doesnt get around when there is ice on the ground. I refused to trade my 05 stang in for a better car because well its a stang duh! DF is now stuck driving my stang on the weekends when he doesnt drive his work truck. But if you ask him about how much he drives it hell tell you he doesnt because he doesnt want to put miles on the thing. (id have a fit) lol. DF and I decided that once I get there in December we will either trade the stang in or well keep it and it will be our weekend car. Oh how I dont want to get rid of that car, but we might have too

I have a Toyota Yaris too, but a sedan.  I like it and have no problems with it, but I traded in my Jeep Liberty for it last year when gas was at it's highest.  It was costing about $140 a week just for going back and forth to work.  But now that gas is back down, I'd take my Jeep back any day.DH has a Jeep Patriot, which is pretty good on gas, for a smaller SUV.  We've had no problems with it.

I can't wait to tell my FI about all these window issues. Even though it happened during the summer, he blamed it on the fact that I tried to put the window down to clear the snow / ice off last winter.Grand Am girls -- Have you ever went through an automatic carwash that used brushes and your side mirror fell off?

We used to both have Jeep Cherokees (DH's is a 2000 Classic with about 110K miles).  We traded in my 2001 Cherokee Sport at about 75K miles for a 2008 Chrysler 300 in May.  I love my 300.  We needed a better highway car and it is fantastic.  I've driven it to Pgh twice and Eastern PA twice and it's so good on the road.  Gas mileage is great.  and I PPH my heated seats.

Whoa AMK $140, that's crazy, how does the sedan drive in the winter?  We also got both of ours when gas was starting to get high and our cars were on their last leg and costing a ton in repairs (mine was a 92 Oldsmobile and DH's door handle broke off when the guy appraised it for trade in, it was pretty funny since he was stuck in the car...not sure if us laughing at him trapped in the car took any money off the trade in)!I love the look of Cobalts and I know a few people who have had them.

I usually wash my car myself so I've never had that problem!  It's only been through an automatic once, but I'm sure I'll use it more now that I don't have a place to use my hose.  I'll keep an eye on it.My latest issue was the anti-lock brakes going out due to something in the wheel area breaking.

I never had problems with my Liberty and snow.  Although it's funny because when I had it and I would always notice Libertys stuck on the side of the road.  I think people get too brave since they're in an SUV, and totally forget how small it actually is.

I win for oldest car! I have a '97 Saturn SL with 170k miles on it! The d@mn thing refuses to die! Watch, someday it will leave me stranded when I least expect it. DH's car is even older....'94 Ford Probe. He's got half the miles that my saturn does, though.

I drive a 2005 Honda Civic and love it - great gas mileage, no major repairs yet, just your regular upkeep. DH has a 2009 Chevy Cobalt and we like that too, but not as good on gas as mine.
