More Invite/Reception wording...

Invite reads:

scripture

bride's name
&
groom's name

together with their children
joyously invite you to join them
in the union of their families through marriage

november thirteenth two thousand ten
at one o' clock in the afternoon

name of church
address
city, state

cocktail reception to follow

My issue: We are not having a traditional reception. We're doing appetizers, cake, and drinks. And really, we're NOT doing cocktails. Our venue is owned by the church and doesn't allow alcohol outside of a champagne toast (though I'm trying to convince the coordinator to let us do wine). So how do I word that?

could you say something cutesy like "treats and sweets reception to follow"?  To me that sounds like light food will be served plus it doesn't say anything about alcohol?

or to be more formal, maybe just "hor d'reves reception to follow" (sorry, poor spelling!)

don't capitalize the date, only the day and the month.

I like "Light Refreshments to Follow." That tells me there will be some food, but not much and I'd better eat dinner before I come. "Refreshments" without the "light" is a lot less clear to me.

Personally I like "together with their children."

I'm with squirrly, I don't like "together with their children". It seems odd to me for a reason I can't really pinpoint.

And I like "Refreshments to follow". It says to me that there will be food, but not a meal.

Yep.

And I agree - your children (unless they're adults) aren't hosting and shouldn't be doing the inviting.
