New Knottie!

Hello! My name is Jamie and although, I have been lurking on the boards for a while, this is my first official post. I got engaged on October 1st and am excited to start planning my wedding. I currently live in Washington DC with my fiance, but I am originally from Lower Burrell, PA-- about 20 minutes north of Pittsburgh. Although, I've lived down here for about 5 years, most of my friends and family are still in the Pittsburgh area, and I am excited to get married in "da burgh."We are planning on a May 2011 wedding and we will start to look at venues over Christmas. So that's a little about me. I look forward to getting to know all of you and picking your brains on many different topics! Thanks!

Hey Jamie!! Congrats and welcome! I'm also from Lower Burrell and still live here.  I'm guessing you went to Burrell?  I'm class of '03 and AMK2009 is class of '01, if I'm not mistaken. Tell us a little more about your wedding! Any ideas for venues or dresses?  We love pictures of dresses! :)

I am still working on picturing my wedding. I know that I want lots and lots of tulips! I want my colors to be lavendar/lilac, peach, green and ivory/champagne. I got back and forth on the venue. I know I either want garden style or urban style. For garden, I was looking at Springwood, but I know some people have had not so great experiences. For urban I love the Heinz History Center. We are thinking about 80-100 guests. Before I got engaged this was my dream dress: But now, I'm not as sold. I love Casa Blanca dresses. I know I want aline. I really like simple elegant with a little bit of bead work, but I also LOVE lace... so who knows what I'll chose! But, I am open to many different styles. My fiance, Rob, is not mentally prepared to start planning the wedding, so I told him that for right now, I am just looking at pretty things. He seems ok with this. :) For the others who live in DC. I live in Woodley Park and work in Old Town, Alexandria. And how fun that others are from Lower Burrell! I did go to Burrell and I graduated in 1999. Thank you for all the friendly welcomes! :)

My brother graduated in '99.  His name is Steve Brown - Homecoming King.  How he beat out all the good looking football and basketball players - I'll never know! I love that dress!  It looks amazing!  Sara (marburs) went dress shopping for weeks and she loves simple dresses so it might be fun to pick her brain for a while.  I'm sure she's got 100s of pictures stocked somewhere!  With the size of your guest list, I'm sure there are TONS of places that would be awesome for your ceremony and reception.

Hello! Welcome and congrats on your engagement! I agree with everyone the ladies here are all super helpful. It's kind of odd isn't it how you think you like one kind of dress and then all that changes? Sounds like you have some ideas brewing in your mind, I'm looking forward to hearing about your planning.

Welcome and congrats!  The dress picture you posted is soooo pretty!  I one on just like it and loved the front, but hated the back of it.  Just take your time and look around, I'm sure there will be many dresses to look at and try on! It also sounds like you have a good handle on some things you want.Good luck planning!
