How late is too late

My FI really wants to send out STDs due to his family being hard to schedule things with. We're getting married in the end of Oct. so we're sending out invites in Mid-August.  Is it too late to still send out STDs or does it really not matter??

Yeah, I think that's way too late. Have you considered sending invites a little earlier? We sent our out 8 weeks in advance because we didn't send STDs and 90% of our guest list was OOT.

Why are you sending out the invitations 2+ months in advance? 

I understand that his family is hard to schedule things with, but how much difference is this advanced notice going to make?  I would skip the the STDs and make some calls.  You may get a better turn out, by calling them up and telling them personally about the wedding, date, time, etc. Adding, "We hope you'll be able to make it!"

You could just send everybody an email with the essential information.  That's what I did.

I think it's too late for Save-the-Dates, I would just send your invites a little earlier.
