how to ask about allergies and restrictions

Any suggestions for how to ask our guests about food allergies/dietary restrictions on the RSVP card in a tactful way?

"Please indicate if you have any dietary restrictions or food allergies so that we can coordinate with the caterer."

"Please contact (email/call) us if you have any dietary restrictions or food allergies."

????  Nothing looks pretty.  Do I just leave that part off and hope that if anyone has a deadly allergy to peanuts or is a practicing vegan (to our knowledge, none of our guests have any food issues, but one never knows) they'll let us know on their own?

Re: how to ask about allergies and restrictions

  • I've never seen anything like that on a response card. I think if someone you knew was going to go into shock and possibly die from a food allergy, you'd already know about it :-)

    Yep. :)
  • Nope, not giving them food options.  I don't think my tiny brain can handle the kind of organization involved in food options and seating charts.

Thank you ladies for your advice!

This is what I had on my Reply card ... I have a total of 8 people (all of whom I expected) comment on the reverse:

  • I just put  "Please let us know if you have any special dietary needs" at the bottom.  You don't need to elaborate.  They'll find a way to contact you, and obviously they know that by putting it there, you'll coordinate with the caterer.   People will let you know without it, but I think it's nice to ask.    (Assuming, of course, that you will be able to accomodate anything that comes up. If you offer, you have to be prepared to find a gluten-free or nut-free option or whatever.)
