Wedding Invitations & Paper

addressing question

ok so mom helped me get my guest list together for her side of the family, which she called my grandma for help with. so, anyways, i know proper ettiquite says list each childs name, BUT we dont know if they have kids and if they do, their names. so once again, ettiquite says dont put  "Mr & Mrs john doe and family" so what do i put?

Re: addressing question

  • If you don't know them well enough to know how many kids they have and what their names are, they're probably not close enough family to warrant an invitation.  If your mom thinks they need to be invited, she needs to figure out the names.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

Ditto aerin. Not knowing the exact spelling of someone's name is one thing, but not knowing if someone even has kids says to me that you haven't spoken with these people in years.

    It actually isn't.

    1) It's not appropriate etiquette.  People should be invited by name.

    2) It opens the door for the guest to invite anyone that s/he considers family.

    3) It still doesn't solve your problem.  What if the person responds. "Mr. and Mrs. George Smith and family" will attend?  Then you still need to make more phone calls to figure out how many people are going to be at the event.  Do they have 2 kids or 12?

Find out the names or don't invite them.
