Wedding Invitations & Paper

Announcement question--please help!

My fiance and I are thinking about just having an intimate ceremony for the two of us, but I would like to send out announcements to our family and friends letting them know we got married. How could I word the announcement so that friends and family know we love them and they were in our thoughts, and that we did not leave them out. I do not want any hurt feelings, but would like them to share in my joy.

Re: Announcement question--please help!

  • The traditional way of doing this would be having the bride's parents issue the announcement. I copied this wording from Emily Post:

    Mr. and Mrs. James Welch
    have the honor of
announcing the marriage of their daughter
    Amy Sue
    to
    Mr. Jonathon Jamison
    Saturday, the twelfth of June
    two thousand one
    Mansfield, Pennsylvania

I've also seen this wording around, but can't vouch for it's correctness in terms of etiquette:

    Bride Full Name
    and
    Groom Full Name
    are pleased to announce
that they were married in a private ceremony
    date spelled out
    year spelled out
    City, State

You should send announcements out the day after the wedding, ideally.
  • We are doing this:

    Bride Full Name
    and
    Groom Full Name

are pleased to announce they were
    married
    during a private ceremony

    Sunday
    Month 1, 2012
    City, State

We didn't spell out the year and we're not using a complete sentence.
