Wedding Invitations & Paper

Map themed invites

So I found these invites that I love! (and so does fiance!!!)

I called and they only have the locations shown, our wedding is in the outer banks of North Carolina. Has anybody seen other island map themed invites along the way?

I was hoping I could just order something...  If I can't find anything premade I did find some old timey maps of the outerbanks that I could have printed and make some myself, its just a little more labor intensive...

I also love love love this one too!!   http://www.grapevinepaperie.com/slideshow/portfolio35.html
Its so cute! Just not in our budget...

Re: Map themed invites

  • Although not the same as the ideas you posted, here are my thoughts:

    - if you have some old time maps of the outer banks area that you like, I'd make a bunch of different photocopies and play with it on my home printer. Photocopiers give you the option of making things smaller than the original sized document. I have a photocopier/printer/scanner at home, which was a great help with my wedding. If you don't have one at home, maybe at your work, or a friend or family member's?

    - You may be able to photocopy them onto some lightweight cardstock, then put a vellum overlay attached with a ribbon or something that looks like a thinner version of "nautical rope". You can print the actual words on the vellum, which is how my invitation kit was actually made, vellum overlay over cream & black toile print.

    - The second link you provided looks like paper I've seen at office supply stores, I just can't think of the name. I know it's not linen paper, but something else that has some texture to it. I'd check those stores. It may be pricey, not sure, and not sure how many invitations you need. If you find that paper, I'd probably print them then "distress" them with something sort of bumpy underneath, massaging the invitation to get deeper texture.

My invitation kit didn't have enough inclusions to give me something to put a map on. I found cardstock at (I believe) Office Depot that was 8 1/2 by 11, but had pre-punched lines to make 4 post-card sized cards. It was taupe with brown around the edges to look sort of aged.

Hope that helps. Good luck. Love your idea.

  • edielaura- I haven't looked on etsy but I will!

Sue-n-Kevin- thanks for the DIY info, if I can't find anyone to make it I think I will try to make something like the second idea. I really like the little treasure scroll invites. Maybe the reply cards could have the maps on them.
